Over the past several years, the demand for FM certification has diminished. With high costs to re-certify and maintain the certificate, Georg Fischer Signet has decided to discontinue FM approval on the following products:
- 515 Paddlewheel Flow Sensors
- 525 Metalex Paddlewheel Flow Sensor
- 5090 Sensor-Powered Flow Monitor
This will become effective June 30, 2012. For orders placed before June 30, 2012, but shipped after June 30, customers must be notified the Signet products that they are ordering will not have an FM mark. With the discontinuance of the FM Approval, the 6400 Intrinsic Safety Barriers will also be discontinued from the Signet product offering. Please see the part numbers below:
- 6400-9001 159 001 466
- 6402-9001 159 001 486
The FM Approval certification mark will be removed from the products noted above. These devices will no longer be approved as safe for use in hazardous (classified) locations. Design, performance, and all other specifications for these products remain unchanged.

Assmann Corporation has added Black tanks to their listing for both Potable Water in Linear polyethylene and also Chemical storage tanks for Crosslink polyethylene.
Keep in mind Assmann tanks are the ONLY Crosslink tanks certified to the NSF 61 standard. Their Crosslink tanks do not require an additional liner to meet the NSF 61 certification.
Assmann is also the only Crosslink tank manufacturer that uses the Schulink XL-350 resin.
The NSF 61 certification is becoming a very pressing issue in the municipal water treatment market. Many engineers are excited that Assmann has the NSF certification.

The Type 514-519 diaphragm valves from GF Piping Systems incorporate features never before seen in a plastic diaphragm
valve. The valve has Cv values that average at least double the conventional design. This high-flow design allows the
valve to be used where diaphragm valves were previously not possible due to flow restriction. In addition, the new design
eliminates the four bolts used to hold the valve together. This eliminates a corrosive weak point. The Type 519 zero-static version uses the pipe wall as the weir and provides for maximum purity and drainability. The valve is available in PVC, CPVC, PP, PP-n, and PVDF. Standard versions can handle up to 150 PSI. All PVDF and an optional PVC version allow for
pressures as high as 240 PSI.

The use of thermoplastic materials is not well known in the overall world of fabricated products. While thermoplastics may have limitations with regard to the operating temperature or operating pressure of a fabricated structure, they very often present an excellent alternative to metals due to some inherent characteristics. Depending on the application, thermoplastics may far outlast metals in the areas of corrosion, resistance to chemicals or abrasion...
