Lubrizol's FlowGard® Gold: Be Iinformed

USCO SupplyWith so many piping options on the market today, how do you choose the one that's right for you? You might choose the one with the strongest reputation. Or perhaps the one with the best track record for customer satisfaction. Or, given the tight economy, you might choose the one that has proven to be cost-effective.

The good news is that whichever of these criteria you use, the end decision will always be the same — FlowGuard Gold® pipe and fittings from FBC™ Building Solutions.

Made of high-performance chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC), FlowGuard Gold pipe and fittings outperform every other plumbing system on the market today. And Lubrizol can prove it. Just look at the results from third party test reports, testimonials from satisfied customers and more than 50 years of experience in the field. No other non-metallic plumbing system offers this type of longevity. Lubrizol invented CPVC in 1959. Since that time, billions of feet of FlowGuard Gold CPVC pipe have been successfully installed in residential and commercial applications around the globe.

Lubrizol continues to lead the market with technology advances that push the performance of CPVC pipe and fittings to new levels. As a result, Lubrizol is the most specified CPVC system in the country. That's not just a testament of their product quality, but it also says a lot about their technical and service support. They offer the industry's largest network of technical support specialists—both in the field and at their extensive R&D facilities — who are available and provide cost-effective solutions.

Product Advisory: Diaphragm Valves

5-Series Diaphragm Valves5-Series Diaphragm Valves with black PPS nut and EPDM backing diaphragm not for use in high concentration acids and oxidizers.

As a precautionary safety measure, we are informing you that there is a risk that the black PPS housing nut of the 5-series diaphragm valve will fail when used with an EPDM backing membrane in applications involving highconcen- tration oxidizing acids. [ more ]

Hose Tube & Fitting - BACK TO BASICS

Tube & Fitting Tech NoteIt is extremely important that the fitting and hose or tubing be properly matched in size and type. The insert should always be slightly larger than the tubing to create a slight expansion of the tube and provide a good consistent seal.
If a clamp or ferrule is used to compress the hose, caution must be used to prevent over-crimping the ferrule or over-tightening the clamp. More pressure does not necessarily improve fitting retention.

Avoid Damage to pH/ORP Electrodes in Freezing Weather

44-10 pH-ORP Freeze

44-10 pH-ORP FreezeDuring the winter months, product shipments can sit in trucks in below zero weather. If you plan on ordering pH or ORP electrodes or suspect your delivery could be in one of these trucks, the electrodes may reach cold temperatures and freeze during these cold winter months if not remaining at proper storage temperatures. Magmeter 2551 Flow Sensor From +GF+ Georg Fischer: A Great Overview

+GF+ 2551 Magmeter Flow SensorThe Signet 2551 Magmeter is an insertion style magnetic flow sensor that features no moving parts. The patented* sensor design is available in corrosion-resistant materials to provide long-term reliability with minimal maintenance costs. Material options include PP with stainless steel, PVDF with stainless steel, PVDF with Hastelloy-C, or PVDF with Titanium. Utilising the comprehensive line of Signet installation fittings, sensor alignment and insertion depth is automatic. These versatile, simple-to-install sensors deliver accurate flow measurement over a wide dynamic range in pipe sizes ranging from DN15 to DN900 (½ to 36 inches), satisfying the requirements of many diverse applications.

Signet 2551 Magmeters offer many output options of frequency/digital (S3L) or 4 to 20 mA which are available on both the blind and display versions. The frequency or digital (S3L) sensor output can be used with Signet's extensive line of flow instruments while the 4 to 20 mA output can be used for a direct input to PLCs, chart recorders, etc. Both the 4 to 20 mA output and digital (S3L) sensor interface is available for long distance signal transmission. An additional benefit is the empty pipe detection which features a zero flow output when the sensors are not completely wetted. Also, the frequency output is bi-directional while the 4 to 20 mA output can be set for uni- or bi-directional flow using the display or the 3-0250 USB to Digital (S3L) Configuration / Diagnostic set-up tool which connects to PCs for programming capabilities.

Hayward Water Hammer Calculator

Hayward Water Hammer CalculatorWater hammer refers to fluctuations caused by a sudden increase or decrease in flow velocity. These pressure fluctuations can be severe enough to rupture a water main. Potential water hammer problems should be considered when pipeline design is evaluated, and a thorough surge analysis should be undertaken, in many instances, to avoid costly malfunctions in a distribution system. Every major system design change or operation change—such as the demand for higher flow rates—should include consideration of potential water hammer problems. This phenomenon and its significance to both the design and operation of water systems is not widely understood, as evidenced by the number and frequency of failures caused by water hammer.

Flow Velocity & Friction Loss Schedule 80

Friction loss and flow velocity in PVC and CPVC pipes Schedule 80 with water can be found in the table below. The table may be also be used for pipes in other thermoplastic materials where the inner diameter corresponds to PVC Schedule 80.

  • 1 ft (foot) = 0.3048 m
  • 1 ft/s = 0.3048 m/s
  • 1 gal (US)/min =6.30888x10-5 m3/s = 0.0227 m3/h = 0.0631 dm3(liter)/s = 2.228x10-3 ft3/s = 0.1337 ft3/min

Note! Velocity should not exceed 5 feet per second.

The values can be used to calculate pressure loss with the Equivalent Pipe Length Method.

Introduction to Thermoplastics Welding in Industrial Fabrication

Welding Tecniques The use of thermoplastic materials is not well known in the overall world of fabricated products. While thermoplastics may have limitations with regard to the operating temperature or operating pressure of a fabricated structure, they very often present an excellent alternative to metals due to some inherent characteristics. Depending on the application, thermoplastics may far outlast metals in the areas of corrosion, resistance to chemicals or abrasion...
